Climbing Roses– Lots of Vines, No Flowers?

Last year I planted two climbing roses bushes. The first year the vines got to be about 7 foot tall and I had only one flower. In the fall I cut the plant all the way down and in the spring (and every few weeks thereafter) used rose food. This year the vines grew like crazy – well over 12 feet in various directions, but not a single flower. Is it two bad plants or should I be doing something else to get blooms next year?

Google: pruning climbing roses. If you trim them all they way back to the base it will take two years for them to bloom again. You have to train about 4 canes coming from the base to gtrow latterally then you will get flowers on short side shoots all along the main cane.
