Climbing Child Harness

What do you think of child/baby leashes?
I use a harness “leash” on my 17 month old daughter and I constantly get stares and comments that its wrong. I can’t use a stroller because she won’t stay in it. She climbs right out and can unbuckle herself. I can’t carry her the whole time, she’s too big. And I can’t let her walk because she takes off and gets into what she’s not supposed to. So even though I don’t really like the harness myself, its all I can do to contain her while going out in crowded places. I’m just tired of having to explain myself to people. What do you all think?
i do have a 5 year old also so that’s why i use it…i also only use it in crowded places….(malls, the boardwalk, etc)
When I only had my daughter who would stay with me and hold my hand, I thought they were cruel. Now that I have my son who is constantly running and hiding on me in stores, I think they’re an excellent parenting tool. If the “leash” helps your child stay safe and you stay sane? All the more power to you!
