Climbing Blocks
How to attach 4 inch wire mesh to block wall?
I want to use 4 inch wire mesh as a trellis for honeysuckle. What hardware should I use to attach it to a concrete block wall? It needs to be mounted a few inches out from the wall to allow the vines room to climb behind it.
Tools – Drill,
concrete drill bit,
self drilling concrete screws about 3 ” long,
2×2 red wood or cedar,
wood drill bit, a
screwdriver bit to fit the concrete screws,
fence tacks,
hammer,
small wood saw.
The drill bit has to be sized for the concrete screws so get both at the same time, also the torque on the screws are critical, do not try to tighten them to much, they will strip out in the block. The wood drill bit (could be a metal drill) is to make holes in the 2×2 for the concrete screw to go through. The wood saw is just to cut the 2×2 so it can be the cheapest thing you can find. The fence tacks are to hold the wire onto the 2×2.
I would cut the 2×2 about 6 inches long and screw both ends in.
There is another method which may work, but I wouldn’t do it because at some time you may want to take it down. Glue the wood onto the wall using a water proof construction adhesive.
