Climbing Approach Shoes

Climbing exercises….?
My buddy whats to take me rock climbing when we get back down to school. I’m a little out of shape, so does anyone have any specific exercises I could do that would help train the muscles I will be using while climbing?
One more thing…how does everyone feel about approach shoes..evolv strykers specifically?
There is no better exercise for climbing than climbing!
The first thing that will get tired is your fingers.
Get a finger board, finger ball or one of those old fashion exercise hand grips.
So many new climbers try to muscle the cliff. Concentrate on using your legs to climb. Trying to man-handle the rock will kill you in no time.
Overall fitness: running, pushups (finger pushups), situps, etc would be good exercises to get into shape.
There are books out there concerning rock climbing fitness.
I’ve never owned approach shoes. If it’s a long hike in, I use regular hiking boots. If not I just use sneakers or other….but I guess they can’t hurt.
