Atc Climbing

Fs 2004 ATC question about approach and climb info. ?

On Fs 2004 how do you get ATC to tell you when to start your descent and/or your assigned altitude e.g. United 4824, descend and maintain 2,500.

Before taking off, when on the default route planner, you can set your cruise altitude. Air traffic control will make you climb in steps towards your cruise altitude.

Upon reaching top of climb, or when climbing, you will have the option to increase or decrease your cruise altitude. Open the ATC window and select the option to ascend to descend. This only applies when your route type is IFR.

When you have been cleared to approach, ATC will make you descend when you’re near to the airport. After all, there is no point descending to approach when you are 200nm away from the airport. If following a STAR, you will descend using the altitude constraints stated.

Sometimes, ATC will tell you to “expedite your descent”, which just means increase the rate of descent because if you do not, you’ll be too high when beginning your final approach.
